Maybe it&#8217;s just that we have different interests in food and of course would also prefer to relax a bit and watch our favorite movies at home. They are effective not only in shedding off those extra pounds, but are also proven effective in weight gaining regimens when coupled with milk. <p>Bananas are rich in potassium. Potassium is important in the regulation of heart function, blood pressure, fluid balance, and also in the synthesis of nucleic acids, and serves to enhance muscle control. Bananas are also a great source of Vitamin C. Eating one banana is alone comprises 1/6 of the total daily value of Vitamin C, which your body needs. <p>The findings, which contradict earlier research, appear in the November issue of the journal <em>Archives of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.</em></p>
<p>Researchers studied the association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and body positions by observing 60 toddlers while they slept. They analyzed data about the time spent in each body position during sleep, the number of apnea episodes in each position, blood oxygen levels, time spent in each stage of sleep, and the “respiratory disturbance index (RDI)”.</p>
<p>“The mean RDI rose when more than 50 percent of the time was spent in supine (face forward) sleep,” study lead author Dr. Kevin D. Pereira, a professor of otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, said in a prepared statement. “There was even more of an increase when supine sleep compromised 75 percent of the total sleep time. In fact, the RDI in this position was greater than in all other positions combined.”</p>
<p>“This finding is in contrast to previous studies that have demonstrated no correlation between sleep position and obstructive sleep apnea in children,” Pereira said.</p>
<p>He noted that this study did not look at infants, so the findings shouldn’t be confused with the healthy practice of having infants sleep on their sides or backs to help avoid Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).</p>

Research shows that the aging process can be slowed down with a good diet. As you age, your sense of taste and smell may not always be able to tell you when a food is no longer fit to eat. Your stomach also produces less acid. Stomach acid is a natural defense against bacteria you might have eaten. To ensure that what you eat is safe, her are some tips from the FDA:</p>
<p><em><strong>1.</strong></em> Refrigerate or freeze all perishable food. Your refrigerator should be kept at 40 degrees F (4.4 degrees C) and your freezer at 0 degrees F (-17.8 degrees C).</p>
<p><em><strong>2. </strong></em>Never thaw foods at room temperature. Instead, thaw them in the refrigerator, in cold water or in the microwave, and cook them immediately.</p>
<p><em><strong>3. </strong></em>Wash your hands with soapy water before preparing food. Wash your hands, utensils, cutting boards and other work surfaces after they come in contact with raw meat and poultry.</p>
<p><em><strong>4. </strong></em>Never leave perishable food out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours. If the temperature in the room is over 90 degrees F (32.2 degrees C), the food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.</p>
<p><em><strong>5.</strong></em> Thoroughly cook raw meat, poultry and fish.</p>

Amino acids don’t appear to build muscle any better than the more balanced protein in food. Skip the protein powders, too. Serious athletes need slightly more protein than others, but most people get plenty of protein from food. Chromium picolinate, is touted for muscle building too, but the research is unclear.</p>
<p>Creatine, found in meat, fish and poultry, is also made in the body from amino acids. A few studies show that it improves performance in activities like sprinting and jumping, which requires short bursts of energy. But it won’t help recreational exercisers or endurance athletes.</p>
<p><strong>Bottom line:</strong> Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a seasoned athlete, your best performance comes from eating a balanced diet and drinking plenty of fluids.</p>
