A lot of people are not able to stop smoking. Some would like to but always end up finishing a stick. The problem is when they are starting to annoy those who are non-smokers. They might always need to talk and interact with people who do not smoke. An alternative is to use an electric cigarette. It also looks like a normal cigarette but without the burning or tobacco. It gives inhaled doses of nicotine that is vaporized. It is battery operated and produces only smoke vapor that is odorless and disappears in a few moments so others will not be so annoyed by it.

The Banana Diet

Did you know that the banana diet originated from the Japanese? Bananas are currently earning popularity in dieting all over the world. Bananas are easily accessible, thus making this diet regimen a quick hit in Asia, and has now spread even in the US.
Research shows that the Japanese, particularly Okinawans, live longer than any other people in the world. There are at least, 457 Okinawan centenarians (people who are or over 100 years old), as compared with 10 centenarians for every 100,000 US people. The Japanese outlive any other race in the world which is attributed in living better quality lives. This outstanding phenomenon is accounted for by a proper Japanese diet, all based on the fundamental principle of good eating. This diet consists mainly of rice, fresh fruits, fish, and a lot of vegetables. The Japanese also serve a lot of dishes but only in small portions, so they tend to slowly savor each bite, allowing the brain to have enough time to signal the stomach that it has reached its capacity.
The current craze for the banana diet, however, has become more simple and elemental. The Morning Banana Diet was invented by a Japanese pharmacist, Sumiko Watanabe, for her overweight husband, who lost 37 pounds under this diet regimen. This is how the diet became popular not only in Japan, but all over the world.
Bananas were chosen other than any other fruits because of their flexibility. They are effective not only in shedding off those extra pounds, but are also proven effective in weight gaining regimens when coupled with milk. In addition to this, bananas have a few basic nutritional facts that are well underappreciated.
Bananas are rich in potassium. Potassium is important in the regulation of heart function, blood pressure, fluid balance, and also in the synthesis of nucleic acids, and serves to enhance muscle control. Bananas are also a great source of Vitamin C. Eating one banana is alone comprises 1/6 of the total daily value of Vitamin C, which your body needs. Furthermore, a banana contains only 90 calories per 100 g, which reduces a person’s calories intake, substitutes calories with fiber, and helps in weight loss.
The Morning Banana Diet is quite simple to follow. Under this diet regimen, a person only needs to remember 3 things. The first is to eat as many bananas as he likes for breakfast, accompanied by room temperature water; second is to stop eating by 8PM; and third is to be asleep by midnight. Its prime objective is to limit calorie intake, starting with the first meal of the day. Although desserts are a big no throughout the diet, you can eat whatever you want for lunch and dinner, plus, 3 PM snacks are alright.

It is important to treat food properly to avoid food-borne diseases. Research shows that the aging process can be slowed down with a good diet. As you age, your sense of taste and smell may not always be able to tell you when a food is no longer fit to eat. Your stomach also produces less acid. Stomach acid is a natural defense against bacteria you might have eaten. To ensure that what you eat is safe, her are some tips from the FDA:
1. Refrigerate or freeze all perishable food. Your refrigerator should be kept at 40 degrees F (4.4 degrees C) and your freezer at 0 degrees F (-17.8 degrees C).
2. Never thaw foods at room temperature. Instead, thaw them in the refrigerator, in cold water or in the microwave, and cook them immediately.
3. Wash your hands with soapy water before preparing food. Wash your hands, utensils, cutting boards and other work surfaces after they come in contact with raw meat and poultry.
4. Never leave perishable food out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours. If the temperature in the room is over 90 degrees F (32.2 degrees C), the food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.
5. Thoroughly cook raw meat, poultry and fish.
Wound Care Tips
September 20th, 2009
admin Wounds happen to almost everybody. And when cuts or wounds occur, simple steps can be taken to help speed the body’s natural healing process. Some of these are as follow:
- Cover, press, clean.
Cover the wound with a sterile dressing and apply pressure to the wound to halt the bleeding. Use tap water, bottled water or sterile saline to wash the wound. Seek medical help if you think you need stitches, you can’t clean the wound, or if the injury was caused by an animal or human bite. You should also seek medical attention if it has been more than 10 years since your last tetanus shot.
- Medicate.
Apply a topical antibiotic or ointment to the wound. Cover the wound with a heavy lubricant (such as petroleum jelly) to create a barrier to keep the wound moist.
- Keep area moist.
Experts recommend having the wound covered with a sterile dressing to create a warm, mist environment, which is the best condition for wound healing.
- Be well dressed.
The best of dressing is one that keeps the wound moist and the surrounding tissue dry. Use a nonstick dressing and gently change it everyday or 2. Try to keep the wet scab intact. Wounds should normally stay covered for about 5 days or until the surface layers have healed.
